COVID-19 Services Update
In accordance with USC operating procedures, Academic Exploration Advising (AEA) is providing many advising services online. Advisors can be reached by email, or by scheduling an available appointment through myUSC.
Additional information about the University Roadmap to Return can be found on the we-are.usc.edu website.
Academic Exploration Advising (AEA) is the designated advising office for students who are Exploratory, Undecided or Undeclared, and Students-In-Transition. Choosing an academic home at USC is a process, and the AEA academic advisors are here to assist you each step of the way. Most students experience some academic uncertainty during their time at USC. Additional information on the different academic programs at USC is available under Academic Programs of Study, including How to Choose a Major and Choosing a Minor.
AEA advisors collaborate closely with other campus partners including, but not limited to, academic departments and faculty, Academic Review and Retention, Degree Progress, Office of Student Accessibility Services, Financial Aid, and the Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity. For additional information on learning support services, please visit Academic Resources.
If you are an Exploratory, Undecided or Undeclared student, you will meet with your assigned AEA advisor each semester until you officially declare a major. If you are not currently Exploratory, Undecided or Undeclared but would like to meet with an AEA advisor to change your major, please email us at Exploration.email@example.com.
Schedule an Appointment
To schedule an appointment with an advisor, look for available times with your assigned advisor through the Undergraduate Advisement icon on myUSC. If you are not currently in an AEA program (Exploratory, Undecided, Undeclared, Undergraduate Success Program, etc.) please email Exploration.firstname.lastname@example.org to request an appointment.
AEA advisors offer virtual drop-in advising the first three weeks of the semester. Advisors are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students are sent an email with the sign-in link, or they can navigate to the Undergraduate Advisement icon on myUSC to find the sign-in link posted there.
Drop-in advising offers space for students to address questions about their current semester enrollment and plans. Students who would like to make longer term plans for future semesters are encouraged to set up an advising appointment for after September 13.
A one-on-one meeting is required at least once each semester for all students who are currently Exploratory, Undecided or Undeclared, and is recommended for students who have been referred to AEA for major exploration. Advisors are available for both appointment and drop-ins during mandatory advising.
The advising calendar for AEA is here: Updated Spring 2022 Mandatory Advising Calendar
The Spring 2022 Schedule of Classes, Web Registration and Student Registration Appointment times will be updated on October 4, 2021.
The Campus Resources Handout lists a variety of resources that all USC students have access to. We encourage students to review and become familiar with all of them.
